Rohloff Hubs

The Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 offers reliability, low maintenance, easy operation and fourteen evenly spaced gears. All the working parts are sealed inside so it is 100% reliable even under the toughest conditions such as rain, sand, mud and snow. The steps between each gear are all 13.6%, so you will always be in the most efficient gear for the conditions. The Speedhub is operated by a twist shifter which pulls separate cables when shifting up or down. Gears are changed both up and down using cable tension, there are no springs. The indexing of the shifting system lies not in the shifter but inside the hub. This eliminates problems at the shifter and ca bles. Servicing consists of a simple oil change once a year. Here are some of the advantages compared to conventional derailleur systems:

Choose a Rohloff equipped bicycle

  • 14 usable gears in all weather conditions including thick mud.
  • High speed precision shifting.
  • Low maintenance as all the working parts are sealed inside.
  • No gear adjustments needed. Ever!
  • Perfect chainline
  • A very strong wheel as the spoke tension is the same on both sides of the wheel.
  • Symmetric, reversible cog so you can make it last longer.
  • Longer lasting chainring, chain and cog due to the lack of sideways forces.
  • A shorter chain which saves weight and doesn't bounce about.
  • No chainsuck, that annoying thing that happens off road when your chain gets jammed between the frame and the wheel.
  • A quick sweep of the shift lever in any gear is possible. Great for those sudden changes of incline.
  • All the gears on one grip.
  • Shifting is possible in any situation (while freewheeling, standing still, while pedaling forwards and backwards, etc.)

Pick Your Options

TS - Solid Axle

Recommended for bikes with horizontal dropouts, as the wheel nuts are necessary to withstand the pedalling forces on the hub. The chain is usually tensioned using a separate chain tensioner, and the gear cables are mounted to the cantilever brake studs.

TS EX - Solid Axle with external cable +£75.00

The external cable consists of a box which mounts to the end of the axle into which the cable outer runs. This replaces the normal system which depends on mounting a fulcrum onto the cantilever brake boss.

CC - QR Axle +£25.00

With a hollow axle for use with a quick release lever. Only suitable for bikes with vertical dropouts.

CC EX - QR Axle with external cable +£125.00

The external cable consists of a box which mounts to the end of the axle into which the cable outer runs. This replaces the normal system which depends on mounting a fulcrum onto the cantilever brake boss. Choose this to use with a classic quick release system (vertical dropouts only).

CC/DB - Disc Brake +£100.00

With a disc brake hub cap and the EX external gear changer.

TS DB - Disc Brake with solid axle +£100.00

If you have horizontal dropouts, Rohloff don't recommend you use the quick release version, as the axle may slip in the frame. Choose this option instead.

Standard

The standard torque arm is attached to a bracket on the chainstay beans of a QR button.
