The Tanami is a twenty-niner adventure bike. It uses the same multi butted Dedacciai steel tubes and stainless steel frame as the Silk Road, but scaled up for big wheels.
By integrating the rack into the mainframe, weak points like braze-ons and screws are completely eliminated and the frame is massively re-enforced. This is particularly critical when touring with heavy loads, as any lack of rigidity in the rack or frame will cause the bike to wobble or shimmy, as well as being less efficient to pedal.
The Tanami is available with Rohloff hub gears or with derailleur gears and equipped with an eccentric bottom bracket, enabling the chain tension to be adjusted without using a tensioner. With Tout Terrains universal 3-in-1 dropout, the same frame is used for all gear systems and can be split at the rear dropout to enable a Gates Carbondrive belt drive to be used.
The frame is powder coated in Tout Terrain's own facility to maximise corrosion resistance. The frame is then clear coated to protect the finish and seal in the decals. Finally the inside of the tubes receive a preservation treatment to provide maximum protection against corrosion. Available in four very civilised colours or you can choose from any of Tout Terrains stock colours for extra charge. You can also specify an RAL colour of your choice.
The Tanami is designed for disc brakes only which means there's plenty of clearance for big tyres and mudguards. Two different pannier height positions are available, a standard one and extra-low position. Using the lower position results in a lower centre of gravity, as well as in a more favourable load distribution over the rear wheel. All Tout Terrain bikes are fitted as standard with a handlebar stop which prevents the handlebars from turning more than 90°, for example in the event of a fall or if the bicycle falls over, this avoids dents and scratches in the top tube. A simple and effective idea which is typical of the attention to detail on these bikes.
For tall people the Tanami is also available in an XXL frame size with a seat tube length of 65cm. Both the tubing dimensions and the components have been matched to meet these requirements and it uses the SuperC fork which is stronger and more rugged and can accommodate disk brakes up to 203 mm. Works for people up to 205cm (6'9").
